Friday evening

We enter the subliminal space of retreat with an invitation to go back in our prayerful imagination to a time before the world knew of God's great plan.

We go to a specific time and place--to the night before "the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin...Mary."

It is Friday night of the Sabbath. We imagine the world and the heart of the young Jewish girl who will be visited in the morning and together we enter prayer as would Mary, as does all this world tonight, experiencing Shabbat.

Saturday Morning

"The angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
And now you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus."
(Lk 1:35)
The Annunciation comes alive as Betsey performs her Story Dance! This beautiful and moving re-enactment brings new meaning and color to the beloved story.

Then Kathleen shares how artists through the centuries have been inspired, like Betsey, to depict this world-altering moment when God asked and a woman said yes.

Saturday Afternoon

Saturday afternoon is the "retreat" of the Retreat. Choose to join Betsey for some movement prompts or Kathleen for writing prompts. Either way, the invitation is to then take some time apart in the privacy of you own home to consider what all of this means for YOU.

When we gather again, there will be the opportunity to share this significance with one another. We will then bring the retreat to closure by once more embracing Sabbath prayer with the closing ritual of Havdalah.
